CIS is an abbreviation for the 'Construction Industry Scheme'.  CIS holds small similarities to PAYE but is solely designed for the Construction Industry and certain other businesses.  In April 2007, HM Revenue & Customs redeveloped and introduced the biggest changes to how CIS is operated since the scheme started in August 1999.
